The temples of Khajurao are one of India's major attractions. The temples are superb examples of Indo-Aryan architecture exemplified by superb artistic stone work. Large number of visitors come to Khajurao in March for the dance festival which draws some of the best classical dancers from the country.

Getting to Agra is not the easiest of tasks, though most tourists slot it in between Varanasi and Agra. There is a daily Delhi - Agra - Khajurao - Varanasi flight. Jhansi is the nearest approach to Khajurao on the main Delhi to Mumbai railway line.

Shimla was the summer capital of India during British rule. Shimla is situated at an altitude of 2130 m and is one of the most popular hill stations of India with its' suburbs clinging to the slopes.

A variety of buses run from Delhi to Shimla and the journey takes about 10 hours. By train you can take the Shatabdi express to Chandigarh/Kalka where you need to change from broad gauge to meter gauge.

It is the only hill station in Rajasthan located on a 1200 m high plateau. It has a number of important jain temples, notably the superb Dilwara group of Jain temples. It also has it's own lake.

There are direct trains from Ajmer, Jodhpur and Agra. There are train connections to Delhi, Ahmedabad and Jaipur

 

Dharamshala is now best known as the temporary residence of the Dalai Lama and the seat of Tibets' government in exile. For students' of Tibetan culture, there is a monastery at Mc Leod Ganj and the school of Tibetan studies and its' library, one of the best in the world.

There are flights to kangra airport, 15 kms from Dharamsala. The main bus stand is in Dharamsala. There are about 4 buses a day to Shimla and Delhi which is 526 kms from Dharamsala and it takes about 13 hours to get there. Shimla is 317 kms and it is a 10 hour ride.
