East India includes the states of West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar, Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Mizoram.

On one hand you have the beaches of Konarak and Puri and on the other, the peaks of Darjeeling and Gangtok.

The summer moths are from March to June, followed by Monsoons from July to August. The cold months are from November to February. The states of Orissa and Bihar are quite hot in summers.

Bhubaneshwar is known as the Temple town and the cathedral city because of it's many temples built in classic Orissa style. It was the capital of the ancient Kalinga dynasty. During the last week of January, the Tribal festival is held here with dances, and folk art on display.

Bhubaneshwar has an airport with flights connecting it to Calcutta, Delhi, Madras. Mumbai, Hyderabad, Varanasi and most other major cities of India. It also has an impressive bus terminal on the highway to Calcutta. Bhubaneshwar is one the main Calcutta to Madras railway line so there are plenty of trains to those places.

Puri, located at seaside is one of the four holiest pilgrimage centres of India. The center of attraction and activity is the famous Jagannath Temple and the Rath Yatra. Puri also has a long beach which attracts many tourists especially during the months of January to October.

The nearest airport to Puri is at Bhubaneshwar. There are numerous buses to Bhubaneshwar and it is a one hour drive. There are daily trains to Delhi and Calcutta.

36 kms to the east of Puri, this coastal town is more than just the abode of theworld famous Sun Temple and a peaceful beach. The Sun temple is built in the form of a chariot for the sun god. Around the base of the temple are 24 gigantic carved wheels and the chariot is hauled by seven horses.

Konarak, situated at a distance of 36 kms from Puri is accessible by bus only either from Bhubaneshwar or Puri.
